SHAH ALAM: Malaysia are in high spirits despite losing 1-0 to Oman in their final warm-up match ahead of their Asian Zone final round qualifying tournament for the 2012 London Olympics.

National Under-23 coach Ong Kim Swee believes that his team have had the best of preparations and will be ready to open their campaign against mighty Japan at the Tosu Stadium in Fukuoka on Wednesday.

"The result against Oman's Olympic side is of no concern to me. We tested the players and I am satisfied with our preparations. There are some minor alteration and polishing up that need to be done to the squad. I will do just that when we touch down in Fukuoka tomorrow," said Kim Swee after the game at the UiTM Mini Stadium yesterday.

The Malaysians have left no stone unturned in preparing for the final round, including undergoing a five-week playing stint in Slovakia last month.

The boys played against Eastern European club sides and recorded five wins and two losses in Slovakia. Last week, they held Iraqi club Al Arbil to a 0-0 draw.

Yesterday, Kim Swee's boys went down to a Hussain Ali al-Hadhri goal in the 41st minute.

"In a way, it was good that we lost the last game. They can't be too relaxed. It's not about Japan anymore ... it is about how we look after ourselves," said Kim Swee, who had been emphasising on the need for defensive discipline since they began centralised training early this month.

Kim Swee tried out a few combinations, including fielding the three players who are on loan with Slovakian club Vion Zlate Moravce – midfielders Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor and Mohd Irfan Fazail and centreback Mohd Fadhli Shas.

The trio are on a two-month loan stint and will return to Slovakia after the Japan match.

Kim Swee, his nine-man back room staff and the 21-man playing squad will leave for Fukuoka today, giving them five days to acclimatise to the weather there.

Five players – Mohd Zamir Selamat, K. Reuben, Mohd Ferris Danial, Nazirul Naim Che Hashim and Azrif Nasrulhaq – were dropped from the squad.
